The New York Giants enter their 2022 home opener with the Carolina Panthers as slight favorites in the Betting Odds for this NFL Week 2 matchup.

The New York Giants scored an impressive upset in Week 1. Their come-from-behind victory on the road against the Tennessee Titans signaled a welcome change for the G-Men with new head coach Brian Daboll. Couple that win with Carolina’s loss in Week 1, and the Giants enter their 2022 home opener versus the Panthers as slight favorites in the betting odds.

The Giants put up 394 yards of total offense. Only once last season did the Giants pile up a greater figure (485 Week 4). Saquon Barkely looked like his old self in Week 1, gaining 164 rushing yards and catching six passes for another 30. Couple that with a less than impressive performance the Panthers in Week 1, it’s easy to see why sportsbooks back New York in this one.

Here’s a look at the best betting odds for this NFL Week 2 bout between the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers.

These are notable because the Under is 5-0 in the Giants last five home games again a team with a losing road record. And the Under is 4-1 in Carolina’s last five September games.

NFL Week 2 Preview: New York Giants vs Carolina Panthers

There are several storylines to follow for this Giants home opener, but perhaps none more than the fact that New York is the betting favorite for the first time since Week 3 last season. This marks just the fourth time the Giants lay points in a game since the start of the 2020 season. They’re 0-2-1 against the spread in their previous three as the favorite.

Following their win and the injury to Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback Dak Prescott, the Giants actually saw their NFC East odds shorten. That’s notable because at least one NFL team has gone “worst-to-first,” winning its division the season after finishing last or tied for last place in 17 of the last 19 seasons.

It helps that the Giants have the easiest strength of schedule for the 2022 NFL season.

For this contest, New York could see another big game from Barkley. Carolina surrendered 217 rushing yards to the Cleveland Browns in Week 1. Baker Mayfield looked okay in his first game with the Panthers but he didn’t flash against his former team.

The Giants remain hopeful that their No. 5 overall draft pick, Kayvon Thibodeaux, who missed Week 1 with a knee injury, could return for this contest. The Giants registered just one sack against Tennessee in Week 1. A returning Thibodeaux would certainly boost the pass rush.

Betting Trends Affect Giants, Panthers Odds

The Giants come to this Week 2 contest with a 2-6-1 mark against the spread in their last nine games as a home favorite. Carolina, meanwhile, enters with a 3-13 record against the spread over their last 16 ballgames and a 0-6 against the spread mark following a straight up loss. The Giants sport a 5-1 mark against the spread in their last six matchups with Carolina.

That said, the underdog is 5-0 against the spread in the last five meetings between these teams.

The Under is 10-1 in New York’s last 11 games following a win against the spread. The Under is 7-2 in Carolina’s last nine contests after allowing more than 150 yards rushing in their previous game. However, the Over is 4-1 in the last five meetings between these clubs at MetLife Stadium.
