Two of New York state’s three football scored victories in Week 1, and as a result see NFL Week 2 opening lines as favorites.

The 2022 NFL season kicked off with a bang last weekend. Some notable upsets and injuries caused chaos among bettors and will most likely swing the NFL Week 2 opening lines in dramatic fashion. For the three teams in New York state, early odds favor the Bills and Giants, while the Jets still have work to do.

Opening lines for NFL Week 2 action often feature dramatic reaction by bettors to the Week 1 results.

Road teams came away with a 9-6-1 straight up record in those Week 1 contests, while home teams managed to cover the spread at a 9-7 clip last week. Five of the nine home underdogs covered the spread. Meanwhile, scoring was down almost across the board, as the Under hit in 11 of Week 1’s 16 games.

Opening Lines Week 2: Bills vs Titans

Following their dominant win on the road against the defending Super Bowl champs, the Buffalo Bills saw their futures odds shorten across the board. Prior to last Thursday night’s win, Buffalo saw +600 odds at most sportsbooks, a figure that implies a 14.3 percent chance for them to hoist their first Lombardi Trophy. The biggest moves for the Bills here came at both FanDuel and PointsBet, where the team held +650 odds recently. BetMGM shorted from +600, as did Caesars and DraftKings.

Bills bettors saw the opening lines for the Week 2 clash with the Tennessee Titans sport a 10-point spread at almost every sportsbook. The Look Ahead line for this battle started with Buffalo as 7.5-point favorites, but following the Titans upset loss at home to the New York Giants, sportsbooks faded last season’s top seed in the AFC.

The Titans had no answer for Saquon Barkley in Week 1 and Derrick Henry still seemed to be shaking off the rust from last year’s serious injury. Couple that with the fact that Josh Allen already put his stamp on the MVP race, the Bills enter this one a significant favorites.

Buffalo’s 5-1-1 against the spread in their last seven games, and 3-0-1 against the spread in their last four home contests. Tennessee, meanwhile, enters 3-7 against the spread in their last 10 games. What’s more, the Bills hold a serious rest advantage, having played last Thursday.

Opening Lines Week 2: Giants vs Panthers

New York Giants’ first-year head coach Brian Daboll didn’t hold back in his first contest patrolling the sideline. The Giants rallied from a 13-0 halftime deficit to stun last season’s top seed in the AFC playoff bracket, the Tennessee Titans. The G-Men put up 394 yards of total offense. Only once last season did the Giants pile up a greater figure (485 Week 4). Saquon Barkely looked like his old self in Week 1, gaining 164 rushing yards and catching six passes for another 30.

Giants bettors see an opening line spread of 2.5 points for this Week 2 game between the Giants and Carolina Panthers. The Look Ahead line for this one favored the Giants at minus-1 initially, but bumped to New York minus-2.5 at most sportsbooks.

Following their win and the injury to Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback Dak Prescott, the Giants actually saw their NFC East odds shorten. That’s notable because at least one NFL team has gone “worst-to-first,” winning its division the season after finishing last or tied for last place in 17 of the last 19 seasons. It helps that the Giants have the easiest strength of schedule for the 2022 NFL season.

The Giants comes to this Week 2 contest with a 2-6-1 mark against the spread in their last nine games as a home favorite. Carolina, meanwhile, enters with a 3-13 record against the spread over their last 16 ballgames and a 0-6 against the spread mark following a straight up loss.

Opening Lines Week 2: Jets at Browns

Gang Green looked like the same ol’ New York Jets in Week 1, losing to the Baltimore Ravens 24-9. The offense’s inability to finish drives with touchdowns stood out as the most notable point from yet another opening season loss. The Jets’ offense managed just 83 rushing yards and registered 295 yards through the air. Joe Flacco expects to get the start once again in Week 2.

Jets bettors see an opening line spread of six points at most sportsbooks for this game between AFC rivals. The Look Ahead line for this Jets and Browns battle initially had Cleveland favored by 4.5 points, but following the Browns Week 1 win and another inept offensive performance from New York, sportsbooks faded the Jets even more.

The Jets finished the 2021 season with a 2-5 mark against the spread as the road team. New York’s 0-7 against the spread in their last seven games in September. Meanwhile, Cleveland’s gone 10-9 against the spread after a win under head coach Kevin Stefanski. The total has hit the under in four of the last five matchups between these clubs.
