FanDuel holds nearly 40 percent of the cumulative total for mobile sports betting handle in New York State through early July.

Although New York has seen a downturn in wagers as the summer rolls on, FanDuel remains the dominant Sportsbook, leading in mobile sports betting handle by a wide margin. This summer swoon shrunk handle numbers among each of New York’s nine active sportsbooks, but Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR) remains up for the state.

For FanDuel, however, business continues to boom.

FanDuel Paces New York in Sports Betting Handle

According to data released recently by the  New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC), FanDuel contributed more than $101 million to the state’s $218,904,606 in online sports betting handle for the last week of June. That figure nearly doubled that of DraftKings, which held the second highest weekly total at $52.8 million.

Although FanDuel continues to see a decrease in total wagers, they continue to pace the state in handle. While the total handle numbers dropped during this summer swoon, the sportsbooks still enjoyed solid numbers in Gross Gaming Revenue (GGR).

FanDuel’s GGR through the week of July 10th, $13.7 million, stands as the Sportsbook’s highest figure since late May.

With each NYSGC report, it’s clear FanDuel remains the leader in the online sports betting services in the state. The Sportsbook is currently riding a 22-week run with the highest weekly handle total in New York. The last time FanDuel didn’t sit atop the weekly totals was back on January 23rd, when Caesars held the lead.

FanDuel Leads in Total Mobile Handle Since January

New York launched its online sports betting services in January, and from almost the get-go, FanDuel took the lead. New York became the 18th state to legalize online sports betting, and thanks to its 20 million-plus residents, it quickly became a top market in the industry.

The cumulative totals for New York’s sportsbooks through July 10th show that FanDuel remains the only Sportsbook to clear $3 billion in total handle. DraftKings only pushed passed $2 billion this month.

It seems clear that FanDuel will clear $300 million in revenue before any other Sportsbook reaches half that total, though DraftKings is close. FanDuel’s mobile handle figure represents nearly 40 percent of the total figure wagered in the state, and the top three sportsbooks hold better than a 90 percent share.

It will be interesting to see if BallyBet’s inclusion among the sportsbooks in the state has any affect on FanDuel’s performance. BallyBet opened its online Sportsbook earlier this month, so it will be included in the NYSGC’s next report.

New York Betting Likely to Pick Up Soon

The dog days of summer are nearing their end. With Major League Baseball pushing into its second-half of the season following the All-Star break, bettors in New York will once again have daily games to consider. The state’s baseball teams stand among the best in the sport, and New York fans see favorable odds for Futures and Prop Bets for the Yankees and Mets.

What’s more, the 2022 NFL looms on the horizon. New York sees fewer than 10 weeks between now and the beginning of football betting in earnest. The NFL starts play on September 8th, with western New York’s Buffalo Bills squaring off the defending Super Bowl champions, the Los Angeles Rams.

In the United State, football remains the most popular sport for betting, both on-site and mobile wagering. Globally, football stands as the second-most wagered-upon sport behind only soccer. Bets involving the NFL make up nearly half of all sports bets placed in the United States, and with three teams in New York, it will push the mobile sports betting market to highest yet unseen.
