The Mets and Yankees are once again contenders to lift the World Series trophy come season’s end. Each team is coming into the year with a stacked roster and motivation to overcome last year’s postseason disappointment. However, there is a ton of talent all around the league. Team’s like the Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves will be aiming for glory once again.

We’ll take a look at the 2023 World Series odds, with the start of the regular season just days away.

Yankees, Mets Aim For Deep October Runs

The Yankees’ number one priority over the off-season was to re-sign Aaron Judge. They accomplished that by inking the right fielder to a 9-year $360 million deal. Once that was taken care of the attention shifted to the goal of winning championship number 28.

Last year, the Yankees were swept in the ALCS by the eventual champions, the Houston Astros. The team dealt with injuries as well as a collapse from their lineup down the stretch. Manager Aaron Boone is hoping a healthier and rejuvenated lineup will wipe away the problems that arose last summer and went into the fall.

Meanwhile, the cross-town New York Mets were huge players this off-season. The team lost star pitcher Jacob deGrom but was able to sign Justin Verlander and Japanese right-hander Kodai Senga. Senga, 30, pitched in the Nippon League for the last 11 years where he was able to put up some impressive numbers. The Mets also managed to re-sign Brandon Nimmo.

Buck Showalter’s team won 101 games last year and will be in a position to put together another dominant regular season.

Astros, Braves, and Dodgers Lead the Way

The Astros won the 2022 World Series and will be threats to repeat this time around. Yordan Alvarez was a hero in last year’s World Series and is a candidate to win the AL MVP award this year. NY sportsbooks like the Astro’s chances. They’ve made them the favorites with four days until opening day.

The Braves will have one of the most stacked lineups in baseball. Ronald Acuna and Matt Olson will be the two premier names but they also have a supporting cast capable of causing opposing pitchers problems when the big bats aren’t clicking.

The Dodgers will be threats this year. The departure of Trea Turner won’t help but Dave Roberts still has an extremely talented roster to work with. They did manage to re-sign Clayton Kershaw to a one-year deal. Kershaw is scheduled to make his first start in the third game of the season. FanDuel is giving the Dodgers the third-best odds to win this year’s World Series title.

The Philadelphia Phillies just missed the top 6. FanDuel is giving the Phillies +1500 odds to win it all. Philadelphia went out and signed Trea Turner which will make this Phillies lineup even better. However, Bryce Harper underwent Tommy John Surgery this off-season and will miss at least the first two months of the season. The injury to Harper may have slightly impacted Philly’s World Series odds.

The Los Angeles Angels will be going into their 6th season of the Mike Trout/Shohei Ohtani duo. The two impressed in the World Baseball Classic (WBC), leading each of their respective sides to the final. Still, oddsmakers aren’t impressed by the Angels. With Trout and Ohtani at the helm, the Halos have yet to make the postseason. At +4000 odds, FanDuel is giving them the 16th best odds to win it all.

Big Year For New York Baseball

There will be huge expectations in the Big Apple this year for the Mets and the Yankees. Perhaps the biggest ever.

As of now, NY sportsbooks are slightly favoring the Yankees over the Mets in terms of World Series odds. That could change if the Mets rotation proves to be as dominant as some are expecting it to be.
