Monday Night Football was a big night for the New York Jets. Now after an eventful evening filled with highs and lows, it’s time to focus on the odds for Jets vs. Cowboys in Week 2.

With tons of expectations given the return of a stout defense and the Jets debut of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the hype was through the roof. Just seconds into the contest, though, Aaron Rodgers went down and left the field with an injury. It has been reported that Rodgers will miss the remainder of the season.

When Rodgers went down, Zach Wilson took over. Down 10 in the second half, Wilson led the Jets to an overtime victory. That comeback included a spectacular catch from Garrett Wilson in the corner of the end zone to tie up the contest.

With Rodgers expected to miss the remainder of 2023, Wilson steps in as the starter for the rest of the year. Because of the change at the position, the Super Bowl odds for New York have changed from 16-1 to 35-1 on FanDuel. While the big shift in odds, and a close win over the Buffalo Bills, may lead to some intrigue to take the bet, it is in your best interest to let it be.

For Better or Worse, Zach Wilson Is the Man for the Jets

Zach Wilson has not shown much promise when he was given the starting nod his rookie season. In fact, one year ago, Wilson was benched for Mike White as the starting signal caller. Rodgers is a proven winner, which is why the Jets had so much hype going into 2023. With Wilson leading the charge, even with a great defense, New York will not be anywhere near the Lombardi Trophy.

Elsewhere in the NFL, after an eventful Week 1–one that saw the Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, and Kansas City Chiefs all lose on the NFL’s opening weekend–we prepare for Week 2. Along with the Jets, another team that had a tremendous defensive performance was the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys completely dominated the New York Giants on Sunday Night Football 40-0 to open up 2023. Dallas opened the game with a blocked field goal that was returned for a touchdown and never looked back. The Jets took down the Bills in overtime on Monday Night Football behind a walk off touchdown on a punt return.

The Jets and the Cowboys, after big victories to start 1-0, now go head-to-head in Week 2. Here are the best bets to take in the cross-conference matchup when looking at the Jets vs. Cowboys odds.

Jets vs. Cowboys Odds: Favor the Over at 40.5 Points

The Cowboys only posted three touchdowns on offense in the blowout victory. However, there were certainly sparks as to what the offense is capable of doing. Quarterback Dak Prescott commanded a fast-paced offense. Plus, his decision-making looked much improved. Running back Tony Pollard also ran with confidence en route to 70 yards on the ground. With no Ezekiel Elliott anymore, Pollard took the reins and ran with them.

On the receiving side, CeeDee Lamb remained the number one receiver, but the addition of wideout Brandin Cooks helped spread the field and open up Dallas’ offense. Tight end Jake Ferguson also played a much bigger role in the aerial attack to help out Prescott.

While betting the over is intimidating given the Jets are rolling out Zach Wilson as their starting quarterback, the 2018 second overall pick showed glimpses of improvement in the fourth quarter against the Bills. New York will score enough points to complement the Cowboys’ high-flying offense. While both teams boast great defenses, it should be a close game where the combined score will reach at least 41 points. Take the over at PointsBet.

Defense to Keep Things Close: Take the Jets and the 8.5 Points

The Cowboys completely dominated the Giants. New York had no answer on Sunday night for the Dallas defensive front seven headlined by Micah Parsons. The run defense was able to contain Saquon Barkley and Daniel Jones after the first drive, and the pass defense caught two interceptions.

With that, the Jets defense will keep New York in this game. Jordan Whitehead had three interceptions in the win in Week 1, and with his emergence next to Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams, the defense is bound for another game and season of success. The defense will lead to New York covering the 8.5-point spread against Dallas, so take this bet on DraftKings
