Giants vs. Dolphins Odds, Preview, and Best Bets for NFL Week 5

SBNY » Giants vs. Dolphins Odds, Preview, and Best Bets for NFL Week 5

The New York Giants have fallen below expectations through the first four weeks of the NFL season, and the schedule does not get much easier.

It’s Giants vs. Dolphins in Week 5 at Hard Rock Stadium, and Big Blue’s odds are long. While Miami is coming off of a tough loss to the Bills last week, the offense has been spectacular in 2023. Headlined by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and receiver Tyreek Hill, Miami leads the league in touchdowns.

Things Not Likely to Get Better for Struggling Giants

On the other side, the Giants have had a nightmare of a season. It started with Week 1, where the Dallas Cowboys blew out New York 40-0 at MetLife Stadium. From there, the Giants had to come back from a 21-point deficit to win in Week 2, but now sit at 1-3. Last week, New York got handled by the Seattle Seahawks 24-3 on Monday Night Football, which included an interception returned for a touchdown by rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon.

The Giants were embarrassed at home for the second time in prime-time on MNF. After reaching the playoffs a year ago, the squad might be going back to the basement of the NFL rather quickly. Meanwhile, the Dolphins have everything going for them offensively and defensively. Miami sits at 3-1 and second in the AFC East.

The Giants have had injuries this season, specifically to the offensive line. Left tackle Andrew Thomas is out with a hamstring injury, while tailback Saquon Barkley was forced to miss time with an ankle sprain. In the Seahawks contest, center John Michael Schmitz and tight end Daniel Bellinger got hurt. New York has not been able to push through the adversity.

The Giants aim to keep their season alive, while the Dolphins can rebound after their first loss of 2023. It’s an interconference clash, and here are the best bets to take ahead of the matchup.

Giants vs. Dolphins Odds: Take the Over at 48.5 (-110)

This bet is more of an indicator of what the Dolphins can do against a struggling Giants defense rather than a belief that this game could be a shootout. In Week 3, Miami blew out the Denver Broncos 70-20, and the offense just continued to pile on points. Tagovailoa threw for 309 yards and four touchdowns.

The Giants defense hasn’t been as bad as the scores have indicated, but there is some sloppiness. In Week 3, New York missed 16 tackles in the loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Fast forward to Week 4 and the problem persisted: New York missed 10 tackles in the loss to Seattle. The Giants have a tackling issue, and with the speed from tailbacks Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane, as well as receiver Tyreek Hill, it will be hard for New York’s defense to keep up.

This game has blowout potential and can serve as a “get right” game for the Dolphins. Even with the injury to offensive lineman Terron Armstead, expect the Dolphins offense to be high-flying. Take this bet on FanDuel and watch Miami’s offense move with ease.

At -11, Take the Dolphins and the Points Over the G-Men

There is no reason to believe that the Giants will remain close in this game, let alone cover the spread.

Daniel Jones was sacked 11 times in the loss to the Seahawks, and starting left tackle Andrew Thomas remains sidelined with an injury. Even with the potential return of tailback Saquon Barkley, it is difficult to bet on the Giants offense to lose by less than 11. The scoring issues were still there for the Giants when Barkley was healthy. That makes it even more difficult to expect them to score many points, especially when Jones has shown that he struggles when the offensive line isn’t giving him time.

The Giants, still, have yet to score a touchdown in the first half all season. That stat is through four games. Big offseason acquisition Darren Waller has not had a touchdown yet and has just 15 receptions on 23 targets. Plus, Jones has six interceptions and just two passing touchdowns in 2023. He only threw five picks in 16 regular-season games last year.

There’s a reason why Miami is favored by this much; while the Buffalo Bills won big last week, it’s fair to think the Dolphins will come back strong. Expect Miami to dominate, and take this bet on DraftKings.
