The NY Jets looked like a different team on offense under quarterback Mike White, whereas the NY Giants are in a bit of a slump, and their playoff odds have been adjusted accordingly.
All three New York teams (including Buffalo) are in position for a Wild Card berth at the moment, but questions lie with the two teams that call the New York City area its home.
The Jets and Giants are both 7-4 and have key games coming up this weekend as they hope to hang on to their playoff positioning.
NY Giants’ Playoff Odds Rest on Huge Game This Weekend vs. Washington
The Giants were not expected to win in Dallas last week, picking up a backdoor cover at 9.5-point underdogs in a 28-20 loss at Dallas on Thanksgiving Day. The more damaging loss for the G-Men, however, was a 31-18 loss at home the week before against Detroit.
That loss, coupled with Washington’s three-game winning streak to move them to 7-5, actually has put the Commanders ahead of the Giants in the odds to make the playoffs. Here is a look at the current odds and how they moved in the past week at DraftKings.
TEAM | CURRENT ODDS TO MAKE NFL PLAYOFFS | ODDS AFTER WEEK 11 |
New York Giants | +100 | -150 |
Washington Commanders | -165 | +150 |
The two teams meet at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey this Sunday in what will be a huge game for both teams. Washington’s winning streak started by handing Philadelphia its only loss of the season to date, and the Commanders defeated Atlanta at home on Sunday to improve to 7-5.
The Giants have lost two in a row and three of their last four. They come into this game as 1.5-point underdogs at home, via FanDuel.
New York plays Philadelphia at home in Week 14 before embarking on a two-game road trip to Washington and Minnesota. If the Giants lose to Washington on Sunday, their playoff hopes will dim significantly.
NY Jets and New QB White Face Tough Road Tests
After last week’s 10-3 loss at New England and the subsequent benching of quarterback Zach Wilson, Mike White gave the Jets exactly what they needed in a 31-10 win over Chicago. In the victory over the Bears, White threw for 315 yards and had three touchdown passes. In the process, he made some history with another famous former backup quarterback.
White’s performance made head coach Robert Saleh’s life easier when it comes to sticking with him for the foreseeable future. White also targeted rookie Garrett Wilson, who had two touchdown grabs and 95 yards receiving.
Four of the Jets’ final six games are on the road against teams with winning records: at Minnesota this week, then at Buffalo, vs. Detroit, vs. Jacksonville, at Seattle, and at Miami.
New York Times’ playoff tracker puts the Jets’ playoff odds at 57% (64% for the Giants). Here’s a look at the odds on DraftKings.
TEAM | CURRENT ODDS TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS | ODDS AFTER WEEK 11 |
New York Jets | -115 | +150 |
The Jets jumped past New England after the Patriots’ loss to the Vikings on Thanksgiving dropped them to 6-5 and a game behind the Jets in the standings, but remember that New England owns the tiebreaker over New York.
Prediction: NY Giants or Jets Odds to Make the Playoffs?
As of right now, we would favor the NY Jets over the Giants’ odds to make the playoffs, if we had to pick one team. The Giants are in a bit of a slump, but they will have a few extra days to get healthy after their game on Thursday and prepare for the Commanders. We will have a preview of that game later this week.
