While the New York Yankees have had an up and down year, the New York Mets have been extremely disappointing. The Mets were World Series favorites coming into the year but have now sunk 7 games under .500 in late June. They haven’t been the only disappointing team in baseball but that won’t make Mets fans feel any better.

Here Are the updated 2023 World Series Odds, According to FanDuel

TeamOdds
Atlanta Braves+370
Tampa Bay Rays+450
Los Angeles Dodgers+470
Houston Astros+950
Texas Rangers+1000
San Diego Padres+2000
New York Yankees+2000

The 2021 World Series champions, Atlanta Braves, are the current favorites to take home the crown in 2023. The Braves are 50-27 and have the best record in the month of June. They also have the NL MVP favorite, Ronald Acuna Jr. and Matt Olson, who is tied for the league lead in home runs.

The Tampa Bay Rays have the second best odds to win this year’s World Series. They currently hold the best record in the MLB, at 54-27. The Rays have yet to win the World Series since their inaugural season in 1998.

One team to keep your eye on is the San Francisco Giants. The Giants are tied for the ninth best World Series odds, at +2000. They have the best record in the big leagues since May 1 and continue to rise up the standings. The team’s greatest strength is their depth. It seems like there’s a different guy stepping up each game for the Giants.

Yankees Get Bad News

The Yankees are still among the World Series favorites, yet hopes of the Bronx Bombers winning it all for the first time since 2009 dwindled when reports came out about their reigning MVP. It is now believed that Aaron Judge’s toe injury is more serious then what was previously indicated. The team is still holding out hope that the star right fielder will make a return to the lineup at some point this season.

The Yankees are a completely different team when Aaron Judge is out of the lineup. Gleyber Torres and Anthony Rizzo are each capable but even they have struggled without the protection of Judge in the lineup. The Yankees are 8-10 in their most recent stretch without their star right fielder.

The news regarding Judge’s injury status dropped the Yankees World Series odds from +1600 to +2000. It also dropped Judge’s MVP odds from +3400 to +10000 on FanDuel. The Yankees captain had +550 odds when he last appeared in a game on June 3rd.

Mets Are Sinking Quick

The Mets rough season keeps getting rougher. A team that was originally supposed to contend for a World Series title has fallen 15 games out of first place in the NL East and 8 games back of a playoff spot. The Mets have gone 5-15 in their last 20 games.

Starting pitching has been a big problem for the Mets. Kodai Senga has been the best starting pitcher in a rotation that has Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander in it. To make matters worse Carlos Carrasco has been a shell of his 15 win self from a season ago.

The Mets World Series odds have taken a dramatic shift over the past month. The Mets held +1800 World Series odds at the beginning of the month before dropping to +4500 now, good for the 15th best odds.

A near turnaround is no guarantee. They’ll face the Brewers and Giants at home before going on the road to take on the D-Backs and Padres before the All Star Break.

Should You Take the Yankees or the Mets?

Neither team is in a great position but the Yankees are a better World Series pick right now. They’re in a better spot in the standings and unlike their Subway Series rivals, haven’t faced any disaster stretches to this point in the season.

With Aaron Judge in the lineup the Yankees have shown the ability to win at a prolific rate. They’ll have to wait longer than expected for his return, a return that should still happen at some point in the 2023 season.

This was a tough week for the Mets. They dropped two out of three to the Astros and Phillies, blowing leads vs each team. Though they have longer odds than the Yankees, it’s best to stay away from Buck Showalter’s team until they show some sort of resemblance of what was expected from them in the preseason.
