Entering Week 8 of the 2022 season, the NFL MVP odds races sees Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen as the frontrunner, though several value plays remain viable options on the board.

With the 2022 season pushing into Week 8, sportsbooks regularly update their NFL MVP odds boards. As the league nears its halfway point for the year, bettors continue to search for value plays in futures bets like this one. While the frontrunner for this race remains clear, several sleepers and longshots bear consideration as well.

In 2021, Aaron Rodgers took home the Associated Press’ honor for the second consecutive season. However, without a resurgence from Rodgers and the Packers offense, the NFL MVP Odds in 2022 point toward a new winner. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen looks the part this season, as his play has lifted him to the shortest odds so far. That said, there is still plenty of value in the market right now.

Here’s a look at the updated NFL MVP odds heading into Week 8 of the 2022 season.

2022 NFL MVP Odds: Frontrunner and Favorites

PlayerBest NFL MVP Odds
Josh Allen, QB, Buffalo Bills+125 (BetMGM)
Patrick Mahomes, QB, Kansas City Chiefs+400 (Caesars)
Jalen Hurts, QB, Philadelphia Eagles+500 (DraftKings)

The NFL Most Valuable Player award gets presented to the league’s most deserving candidate by the Associated Press every year, but the honor is almost exclusively for quarterbacks at this point. QB’s have won the award in 14 of the last 15 seasons, with Adrian Peterson (2012) as the lone non-quarterback to take home the honor. Since 2001, only three non-quarterbacks took home the honor, and each was a running back.

Frontrunner: Josh Allen, +125

Although the Bills enjoyed their bye in Week 7, Allen enters Week 8 following another impressive performance, one that lengthened his lead in the NFL MVP odds race. Allen threw for 329 passing yards and three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score in the closing minutes of their 24-20 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. Allen rallied the Bills on the road, helping Buffalo improve to an AFC-best 5-1 on the season.

The fifth-year signal caller saw his odds improve from +200 to +125 almost across the board after that victory. Allen separated himself from his closest competitor, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, whose odds faded at some sportsbooks following the loss.

Allen finds himself with another marquee matchup this week, facing four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in Week 8. Another solid performance on national television would serve to further lengthen Allen’s lead in this race.

Other Favorites for this Award

Mahomes saw his NFL MVP odds fade following the loss to the Bills in Week 6, but bounced back with another impressive performance in Week 7. Facing one of the league’s top defenses in the 49ers, Mahomes threw for 423 passing yards, with three touchdowns and an interception, in the KC’s dominant win in San Francisco. His odds improved from +500 to +400 at most sportsbooks.

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts pushed his way near the top of the NFL MVP odds boards with his play this season. The Eagles remain the league’s lone undefeated team, which certainly helps Hurts’ case. He’s thrown for 1,514 yards, with six touchdowns and only two interceptions along the way, and has seen his odds improve from +3000 at one point to between +450 and +500 at most sportsbooks.

2022 NFL MVP Odds: Value Plays

PlayerBest NFL MVP Odds
Lamar Jackson, QB, Baltimore Ravens+1400 (Caesars)
Joe Burrow, QB, Cincinnati Bengals+1600 (FanDuel)

Lamar Jackson, won AP NFL MVP honors in 2019, stands among the top-5 on NFL MVP odds boards this season and he remains one of the best value plays left at most sportsbooks. He’s thrown for over 1,300 yards and ranks fourth in passing touchdowns (13). He’s also fourth in total touchdowns (15), leading a Ravens team to the top of the AFC North division. Jackson broke Michael Vick’s record for most 100-yard rushing games by a quarterback earlier this season, which has helped build his impressive statical resume.

Joe Burrow, meanwhile, might be the best value play. His odds faded to +3000 following a disastrous Week 1 performance, but since then, Burrow’s steadily seen his odds shorten. He sports a 13-to-1 touchdown-to-interception ratio since Week 1 and sports the league’s best passer rating (117.2) over the last five weeks.

2022 NFL MVP Odds: Saquon Barkley a Longshot to Consider

PlayerBest NFL MVP Odds
Saquon Barkley, RB, New York Giants+15000 (DraftKings)

Some of the longshots on these boards continue to surprise, especially considering who they have better NFL MVP odds than. But one in particular to consider is New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley.

Barkley remains the focal point of the Giants’ offense, a team that’s surprised many with their 6-1 start. He currently ranks second in the league in rushing yards (726) and third rushing yards-per-game (103.7). He leads the league in rushing attempts (143) and is top-10 in rushing touchdowns (4).

Barkley also leads the Giants in receptions (25) and targets (30) so far this season (21) and is second in receiving yards (180). That sort of offensive volume share should keep Barkley in the NFL MVP odds 2022 conversation, especially if the Giants continue their solid play throughout the season.
