We’re through two months of the NBA season and a few teams are starting to separate themselves. The reigning Eastern Conference champions, the Boston Celtics are the favorites with Joe Mazzulla in his first year as head coach. The defending NBA champions, the Golden State Warriors, have seen their NBA title odds slip after a lackluster first two months of the year.
Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Nets and the New York Knicks have each started to play great basketball after starting the season slowly. We’ll take a look at what their NBA title odds look like along with other notable NBA teams.
Celtics Are Favorites But Bucks Aren’t Far Behind
The Celtics have done a phenomenal job this year following the off-season drama surrounding ex-head coach Ime Udoka. The team is just a half-game back of the Bucks for the first seed in the East. Jayson Tatum had led the way. The star small forward is averaging 30 points a game this year. Despite the dominance, the Celtics are still going to have their hands full in the Eastern Conference.
Giannis Antetokounmpo has the Milwaukee Bucks back at the top spot of the East. The Bucks begin the season 9-0 but have since cooled off. They’re still playing solid basketball but the results of upcoming matchups with the Nets and the Celtics could end up impacting their NBA title odds.
The West Is Stacked
The Western Conference has a plethora of talented teams looking to make a run at a championship this year. The Golden State Warriors are one of them. The Warriors are 15-17 and hold the worst road record in the league. To make matters worse, Stephen Curry is now sidelined with a shoulder injury. NY sportsbooks are still giving the defending champs their respect, but things will have to change dramatically for them if they want to repeat.
The Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Clippers are also two teams in the mix. The Suns have gone through some ups and downs this year but appear to be a significant threat to go on a deep postseason run. The Clippers are just behind the Suns as the 5 seed in the West. Kawhi Leanard and Paul George have finally gotten healthy but the big question is whether or not it will remain that way.
As For the New York Teams
The Brooklyn Nets and the New York Knicks are each playing great basketball. The Nets have won six in a row to climb to the 4th seed in the East. The Knicks have won eight in a row bringing them to 18-13 on the year.
The Nets have gained ground in the NBA Championship odds table. They now have the 7th best odds which will continue to improve if Kevin Durant continues playing the way he is and Kyrie Irving stays on the floor. Since the Nets put this superteam together they’ve only been able to underperform. The books seem to think they have a chance to change that this year.
After starting the season 10-13 the Knicks seemed destined for another year of mediocrity. Eight games later, they’ve got their fan base rocking thanks to eight consecutive victories bringing them to the 6th seed in the East. Unlike the Nets, NY sportsbooks still don’t like the Knicks’ chances. Their +16000 odds to win the NBA championship are long but did improve from +24000 after last night’s win over the Golden State Warriors. You could find even better odds for the Knicks elsewhere as their odds to win the Eastern Conference are the 10th best at +11000.

Best Bets For Team’s With Longer Odds
The Denver Nuggets and the Cleveland Cavaliers have the 8th and 11th best chances of winning an NBA title this year. The two teams are each top three in their respective conferences and will be hungry during the regular season.
The Cleveland Cavaliers got their star over the off-season when they traded for Donovan Mitchell. The deal appears to be working dividends for a Cavs team that is now ten games above .500.
Jamal Murray is playing great basketball since making his return from a Torn ACL. The last time we saw him and Nikola Jokic paired together for an entire season the Nuggets ended up going to the Western Conference Finals
Expect each of these teams to have home-court advantage to start the postseason and represent tough matchups for opposing teams. It’s sure to be an interesting NBA season for a league that’s now filled with parity.
