The New York Rangers have established themselves as one of the favorites to win the Stanley Cup this year. The Rangers have a young, deep team that has already shown they are capable of going on a deep run. Last season, they reached the Eastern Conference Finals only to be undone by the Lightning in 6 games.
We’ll see what the rest of the year has in store and where the Ranger’s best Stanley Cup odds lie.
Rangers Currently Stand At Third In the Metropolitan
The Rangers are now the third-placed team in the Metropolitan division. If the season ended today they’d be squaring off with the second-placed New Jersey Devils. The Rangers would not have home ice for that series.
Though the Rangers are dealing with a recent sour stretch, the team has played well since December. They’ve had a couple of seven-game winning streaks during this stretch to help them rise into playoff positioning in the Eastern Conference.
The Rangers have had deep play this year with Artermi Panarin once again being the team’s leading point-getter. Mika Zibanejad isn’t far behind him, having put together a 31-goal season through his team’s first 60 games.
Defenseman Adam Fox has had an impressive year. The 2021 Norris Trophy winner is once again in contention to win the award for defensive player of the year. You can take him for +400 odds on Caesars to win the award.
Goaltender Igor Shesterkin hasn’t been as productive as he was last year when he won the Vezina Trophy. Shesterkin won’t win that award again but he’s still been an asset to this Rangers team.
Rangers Nearing Deal For Patrick Kane
The March 3rd trade deadline is fast approaching and it appears the Rangers will be one of the teams that get in on the action. The team is reportedly on the verge of acquiring Blackhawks star Patrick Kane. However, nothing has been finalized but boy are Rangers fans ready for Kane’s arrival.
These rumors come as the Rangers are enduring a slump. A 5-2 win over the Kings the other night snapped a four game losing streak. The distractions of the potential move may be a contributing factor to the team’s recent struggles.
Kane, 34, is a three-time Stanley Cup winner with the Blackhawks. He was the first overall pick in 2007 and has spent his entire 16-year career with the Blackhawks. In 54 games this year, Kane has recorded 16 goals and 29 assists. His addition would be a huge veteran boost for the Rangers.
2022-2023 Stanley Cup Best Betting Odds
The Bruins have the shortest odds to win this year’s Stanley Cup. Boston stands far and away ahead of the rest of the field. They’ve already racked up 97 points through 59 games. They have a chance at surpassing the 1976-1977 Montreal Canadien’s record season point total of 132.
The Avalanche have the next best odds to hoist the Stanley Cup. The Avs are the reigning winners but have taken a step back in the standings this year. They’ve still got a complete team led by Nathan MacKinnon and are a sure bet to return to the postseason.
Looking further down from the top eight, the Oilers are in a position to make another postseason push. Connor McDavid continues to obliterate the league and is a huge favorite to win the Hart Trophy. In 61 games he’s already racked up 115 points. The Oiler’s longest odds to win the Stanley Cup are +1500 on BetRivers.
Can the Rangers Make a Run?
NY sportsbooks are giving the Rangers favorable odds to win the Stanley Cup. The odds are surprising given the team is likely to be without home ice in the first round. Their most likely first-round opponent is New Jersey Devils. The Devils are led by fourth-year player Jack Hughes, who is going through a breakout campaign.
The Rangers would like to see Igor Shesterkin return to his form from a year ago. Right now, he’s not even a top-10 goalie in save percentage and goals against average. Rangers fans would love to see Shesterkin making more incredible saves like this one from the other day.
A trade for Patrick Kane would surely help this team. There’s about a month and a half left in the season and the Rangers will be one of the teams fighting for playoff positioning. We’ll find out a lot about this team between now and when the playoffs start on April 17th.
