If you thought everything was going to click in the first two months of the 2022 NFL season under new New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll, then you’re in line for some easy wins on some futures bets on New York Giants odds.
After pulling off yet another upset of a team that’s regularly been in the playoffs in recent years on Sunday over Baltimore (and coming back from down 10 points in the fourth quarter to do so!), New York is 5-1 and defying the odds–literally. We’re taking a look at the Giants’ odds, then (August) and now.
The Bet: Saquon Barkley Is Back
If you thought that two injury-prone years were going to be enough for Saquon Barkley, then you could have bet the over on yards and touchdowns and would be looking pretty good right now.
The preseason over-under total on Saquon Barkley rushing yards was 900.5. After collecting 83 on 22 carries in the 24-20 win over the Ravens, Barkley now has 616 on the season. The Giants rusher also leads the league in all-purpose yards.
The rushing touchdown number was set at seven, and Barkley scored one on Sunday to get to four in 2022. It would’ve been five if he didn’t surrender himself at the 2-yard line to secure the Giants win on Sunday!
Where you really could’ve scored in Barkley’s resurgence, however, is in the NFL Comeback Player of the Year race. Barkley, buried down the odds board at +1500 to start the season, is now more than a 1-to-2 favorite to win the award on DraftKings.
NFL 2022 COMEBACK PLAYER OF THE YEAR | PRESEASON ODDS | CURRENT ODDS |
Derrick Henry | +400 | +1000 |
Jameis Winston | +550 | +10000 |
Christian McCaffrey | +750 | +1200 |
Daniel Jones | +800 | +3000 |
Michael Thomas | +800 | +10000 |
Baker Mayfield | +1200 | +10000 |
Mitchell Trubisky | +1200 | +15000 |
Chase Young | +1400 | +10000 |
J.K. Dobbins | +1400 | +5000 |
Saquon Barkley | +1500 | -225 |
Most of the players listed ahead of Barkley on this list have already dropped out of the race. Two to keep an eye on who aren’t listed here are quarterbacks of 3-3 teams: Marcus Mariota (Atlanta) and Geno Smith (Seattle). If either one of those lead their team to the playoffs, they could be in line for the award, but if Barkley continues at his current pace, it would be difficult to see anyone (including his own quarterback) surpass him for the award.
Giants Should Easily Surpass Win Total; Now Favored to Reach the Playoffs
After last week’s win over Green Bay, the Giants were near even-money to reach the playoffs. After the win over the Ravens and losses by several other NFC teams, the Giants are only one of four NFC teams over .500 and tied for second overall in the conference with Minnesota (behind 6-0 Philadelphia).
After a wild Week 6, the Giants are now -225 to reach the playoffs on DraftKings. That number has gotten better and better as the weeks have gone on.
TEAM | CURRENT ODDS TO MAKE PLAYOFFS | ODDS AFTER WEEK 5 | ODDS AFTER WEEK 4 | PRESEASON ODDS |
New York Giants | -225 | +105 | +180 | +225 |
Finally, the preseason over-under win total for the Giants stood at 7.5, and now that number is up to 10 on DraftKings.
Even though New York is a 3-point underdog at 2-4 Jacksonville this week, they do have the third-easiest schedule remaining in the NFL, and they could pass the 7.5 number in their next three games since they face the 2-4 Jaguars, 1-4 Detroit Lions, and 1-3-1 Houston Texans.
