The New York Giants enter the 2022 NFL season with a new head coach but still see long odds for futures bets.

The New York Giants remain one of the most storied franchises in the NFL, however, the team finds itself in some lean years of late. Following yet another losing season, the Giants made a head coaching change yet again. This time, the franchise went with Brian Daboll, hoping he can lead the Giants back to the Super Bowl. But heading into the 2022 NFL season, New York sees long odds for most futures bets.

The Giants last winning season came back in 2016, when the team finished 11-5 under head coach Ben McAdoo. That year, the Giants lost in the Wild Card round, which happens to be New York’s last playoff appearance. New coach Brian Daboll hopes to lead the Giants back to the postseason, but he’s the fourth head coach since McAdoo six seasons ago.

The Giants remain optimistic for their 2022 outlook and beyond, hoping the new offensive-minded coaching staff can jump start performance, but that remains to be seen.

Giants Futures Odds for Total Wins

Most of New York’s nine online sportsbooks list the Giants with long odds for the 2022 season. This comes despite New York’s success in the 2022 NFL Draft, where the team landed a pair of highly-touted prospects in EDGE Kayvon Thibodeaux and OT Evan Neal. The Giants also added capable veterans in free agency, including QB Tyrod Taylor, OL Mark Glowinski, and TE Ricky Seals-Jones.

Despite these roster improvements, and a new coaching staff, the Giants still face long futures odds across the board.

  • FanDuel set New York’s win total over/under for the 2022 regular season at 7.5. The Giants see +140 odds for the over and -165 odds for the under of this futures bet.
  • DraftKings, meanwhile, set a similar figure for New York’s win total. The sportsbook opted for 7.0 wins as the total, favoring the under (-125) and giving the over longer odds (+105).
  • Caesars lists the same total and odds for the Giants in this futures bet as DraftKings, but recent reports indicated the over has accrued 73 percent of the total handle. The over also makes up 53 percent of the ticket count at Caesars so far.

Bettors wagering in this fashion seem to be counting on bounce-back seasons from New York’s injured stars, including running back Saquon Barkley, as well as receivers Kenny Golladay and Kadarius Toney. Under Daboll, the offense should play with an improved pace, and new defensive coordinator, Don “Wink” Martindale, should improve both their pressure rate and hurry percentage.

New York Playoff Longshots

The likelihood that the New York Giants make the NFL playoffs in 2022 holds long futures odds at most sportsbooks. While there are surprise teams that make runs to the playoffs every season, a postseason run for the Giants seems unlikely.

That said, it’s worth noting that at least one NFL team has gone “worst-to-first,” winning its division the season after finishing last or tied for last place in 17 of the last 19 seasons.

DraftKings gives the Giants +10000 to be the NFC’s No. 1 seed in 2022, and +2500 odds to reach the NFC Championship game.

BetMGM favors another New York team, the Buffalo Bills, with their latest Super Bowl futures odds.

The Giants enter the 2022 season with the fourth-easiest schedule based on 2021 team records. Their bye comes in the middle of the season, one of the best placements for the Bye Week.

If they avoid serious injuries, the G-Men should be improved in 2022 thanks to the new staff and roster upgrades. That said, it’s up to each bettor to decide whether or not these Giants futures odds remain favorable.
