We’re now officially at the halfway point of the regular MLB season, so we thought it would be a good time to evaluate how New York’s teams are doing so far. Will they have a chance at making the playoffs and challenging for the World Series?
We’ll look at everything from current standings to recent form, and the odds being offered to suggest how the betting experts think their seasons will pan out.

New York Mets
The New York Mets have been having an incredible season so far and are currently sitting top of the National League (NL) East division. They’ve won four of their last five games, scoring 29 runs and conceding just nine at the time of writing.

It’s no surprise then to see them as one of the favorites to win this season’s World Series. In fact, with MLB betting odds, they sit fourth in the list of favored teams by NY sportsbooks with average odds of +750.
Why is that? As mentioned, they’re in good form, and that has served them well this season, leaving them with 52 wins and just 31 losses. That’s three wins more and four wins less better off respectively than the NL East’s second-placed team, and reigning MLB champions, the Atlanta Braves.
New York Yankees
Arguably the bigger of the two sides in terms of their fan bases and global appeal, the Yankees are unsurprisingly this season performing very well. It has been a while since we can say that with the last few seasons being disappointing. Especially getting knocked out in the wild-card game last season by their long-time rivals, the Boston Red Sox.
However, this year they seem to have their stuff together and are making a significant push for the playoffs, and will hope that they can claim the World Series too. As it stands, the Yankees are the favorite with NY sportsbooks at an average odds offered of +375 to go all the way to be crowned champions of MLB.
Much like the Mets, the Yankees sit atop of their division in the American League East, recording 60 wins and just 23 losses, which is miles ahead of their rivals in second place the Red Sox. Whom they are in the middle of a series with right now, and so it could be an intense period as when these two get together, form goes out the window, because both teams go at it full throttle.
They have started that series off as a win though, although they have only won three of their last five games. Let’s look at their record:

The Overall Picture
If we look at the big picture here, it’s clear that both New York teams are in a good period, although the Yankees have the better record. Either way, with two teams favored by NY sportsbooks, it’s a good chance we could see a New York team at the World Series finals.
There is even a chance with both teams in different conferences, that the two franchises could meet in the finals, which would cause quite the divide in the Empire State regarding who to support.
