It’s September! We’re finally in the stretch run of the baseball season, which means it’s time to compare the Yankees and Mets’ World Series odds.

Each of the two big league clubs in New York will be coming into September as serious World Series contenders. That’s something that we haven’t been able to say since the 2006 season.

Both teams have faced adversity this year. The Yankees are slumping, while the Mets have dealt with plenty of injuries to the top of their rotation. Being battle tested is important when it comes to October baseball. It’s also important to take a look at each team’s trajectory so that we know where they stand currently, and where we think they’ll be when the postseason begins. The good news for fans of each team is that they’re both locks to make the playoffs.

Let’s see how each teams’ World Series odds from the most popular NY sportsbook stack up with each other so we can see which one has the upperhand.

Yankees Odds

The New York Yankees had a tough month of August, going 10-18. It was the team’s first losing month of the season. They ended up slipping to the two seed in the AL, after being passed up by the Astros.

As a result, the Yankees World Series odds slipped to +450, putting them at third in the odds table. The Yankees had been one and two all year with the Dodgers in World Series odds until their August collapse.

Thankfully for Aaron Boone’s squad they’ve got another month or so to figure things out so that they’re playing their best baseball when the postseason comes around. Aaron Judge looks to be getting hot again. The right fielder has homered five times in his last nine games, after going through what was a homerun slump for his standards

With just over a month left in the season the Yankees should be able to hang on to the number two spot, although their lead in the division has shrunk to six games. BetRivers NY has their odds to win the division at -3335. The Yankees will have a chance to seal the AL East, with six of their next ten games coming against the second place Rays.

Mets Odds

The New York Mets have been playing steady baseball lately. The team with the best rotation in baseball just got Jacob deGrom back last month. The star pitcher continues to impress us all, even the most competitive of his opponents…

For the Mets, the rest of the season will be about hanging on to the division, and establishing the order of the playoff rotation.

The Mets stand three games up on the Braves for first place in the NL East. The Braves continue to make this race close, but the Mets always seem to then find a way to create distance in the division. On BetRivers, the Mets are currently -435 favorites, with the Braves odds at +325. The two teams will square off in the second to last series of the season, with a three game set in Atlanta.

Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer will lead the way for the Mets when playoff baseball gets started. The two will likely pitch in that order. Bassitt will get game number three and Walker could go in four, unless manager Buck Showalter wants to turn to deGrom on short rest. Whatever happens, this isn’t going to be a team you’ll want to see in the playoffs.

With the Mets having the fourth best World Series odds, at +525. Who is the best World Series bet in New York?

Who To Bet On?

It’s the Mets. It’s got to be the Mets. The team is on its way to having their best record since 1986, when they won the World Series. Jacob deGrom will have two months under his belt, before he gets the ball in October. The lineup has also been producing, sitting at third in the league in on base percentage.

Let’s wait until we see proof of the Yankees turning things around, before we place World Series bets on the Bronx Bombers. They’re not getting much offensive production outside of Judge, and the rotation has fallen off a bit. The team limped through August, and frankly the oddsmakers seem quite favorable to them still. Wait to see if this team can turn things around. If they do, it’s hard to picture much movement in their odds, which makes them an even easier pass at the moment.

If you’re looking to get even riskier with your money, you can head over to Fanduel and place a bet on the Yankees and Mets to face each other in the World Series. The odds sit at +900 right now. The Yankees to beat the Mets and the Mets to beat the Yankees are each listed at +1700.

It’s going to be an interesting September month of baseball, and an even more thrilling October. Each New York team has the potential to go the distance, but bettors should lean towards the one in Queens.
