The 2022 MLB season has concluded with the Houston Astros defeating the Philadelphia Phillies 4-2 to win the World Series. It was the Astros 2nd World Series title in 6 years.

The two New York teams had disappointing conclusions to their seasons. The Mets lost at home in the Wildcard Round. The series went the distance but the Mets were hammered in a winner take all game, which wrapped up their 101-win season.

The Yankees made it farther in the postseason, but not a single Yankees fan would tell you they were proud of the team’s October performance. They beat the Guardians in the ALDS after being taken to the brink, only to be swept by the Astros in the ALCS.

Both teams are expected to compete again next season. With that in mind, it’s never too early to dive into next year’s World Series odds to see where each New York team stands.

2023 World Series Odds

The Mets and Yankees are each in the top 6 of most NY sportsbooks when it comes to 2023 World Series odds. The Yankees currently hold slightly better odds than the Mets to win the 2023 World Series.

BetRivers and DraftKings are giving the Yankees the longest odds to win their first world championship since 2009, at +1000. After missing out on the 2022 World Series it will now be at least 14 years between championships for the Yankees. 14 years is considered a drought for the Bronx Bombers, which means there will be plenty of pressure on this team to win next year.

DraftKings is giving the Mets the longest odds to win their first World Series since 1986, at +1200. Their division rival, the Braves, is being given better odds. DraftKings is listing Atlanta’s chances of winning two titles in 3 years at +800. The Mets will be aiming to win the division and secure a first-round bye next season.

Despite their ongoing postseason failures, the Dodgers are the favorites to win it all in 2023. The Astros are listed just behind them and represent a much better bet than the Dodgers due to the October resume they’ve put together in recent years.

Yankees Off-Season Preview

The top impending MLB free agent is Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge. Judge turned down a big deal before the season started, only to go off for an American League record 62 regular season home runs. The Yankees’ number one off-season priority will be to resign Judge.

The odds have already been released on Judge’s next landing spot. Each New York team is in the mix, though they have much different odds.

Yankees players Anthony Rizzo and Jameson Taillon will also be becoming free agents. General Manager Brian Cashman is going to try to bring each of them back over the off-season.

The Yankees will look to be major players this winter. They’ll likely try to go after a few top names in free agency, as they normally do. Another major concern will be getting the team healthy. The Yanks began to fall off this year when Matt Carpenter, Andrew Benintendi, and DJ Lemahieu all went down with injuries. It will be critical for their World Series chances that they can retain Judge and get the rest of the team healthy for the start of 2023.

Mets Off-Season Preview

Meanwhile, Jacob deGrom is going to be the Met’s number-one priority this off-season. The right-hander just declared for free agency and has been the top guy in the Mets staff for the past 5 years. If he decides to depart, it’s going to hurt the Mets and lead to a drastic 2023 World Series odds shift.

Chris Bassitt, Brandon Nimmo, and Edwin Diaz are other notable names set to hit free agency for the Mets. General Manager Billy Eppler will have a chance to re-sign all of them, but someone will leave. Nimmo will be one of the only true center fielders on the open market, while Diaz could become the highest-paid reliever ever.

It’s going to be an interesting off-season for the Mets and Yankees. One that will certainly have a large impact on the 2023 World Series odds.
