Playoff races continue to heat up throughout the league, and this matchup between Buffalo and Miami in Week 15 is no exception. The NFL flexed this game into its Saturday night primetime slot, considering the implications. That move though, corresponds with cold temperatures that will surely affect the Bills, Dolphins, and betting odds in this one. 

The Buffalo Bills (10-3, 6-6-1 ATS) topped the Jets in difficult field conditions last week, winning 20-12 and taking full control of the AFC East. The field conditions don’t look like they’ll be any better for Buffalo this week, but considering their opponent’s home is sunny South Florida, they’ll hold the advantage. The Bills hold a two-game lead over the Miami Dolphins (8-5, 6-7 ATS), who come in following a disappointing loss to the Los Angeles Chargers last week.

The opening lines for this matchup set the Bills as 7-point favorites at home over the Dolphins. Action at most sportsbooks has pushed the spread to 7.5 in favor of Buffalo, and that’s no surprise considering the expected elements and Miami’s worrisome loss last week. 

Weather, no doubt, is the reason the point total for this game continues to tick down at most sportsbooks. The total opened at 45.5, but over the last few days it’s dropped to 42 or 42.5. 

This game carries with it serious playoff implications in the AFC. The Bills currently hold the top spot in the conference and a win on Saturday all but locks up another AFC East title. 

Buffalo’s defense hounded Jets quarterback Mike White last week despite not having Von Miller. The Bills registered three sacks, seven QB hits and 21 pressures. White was twice knocked out of the game for short periods of time. Now, the Bills welcome a struggling Tua Tagovailoa, who they’ve already knocked from a game this season (though he did return). 

The Bills offense slugged through less-than-ideal field conditions and a solid New York Jets defense last week. Buffalo registered a season-low 232 yards of total offense in the win. Josh Allen threw for a season-low 147 yards, but now faces a Dolphins defense allowing 259.4 passing yards-per-game on the road. In the Bills’ Week 3 loss to Miami, Buffalo managed just 19 points (their second-lowest total of the season), but registered 497 yards of total offense (their second-highest figure on the year). 

Miami, meanwhile, lost to the Los Angeles Chargers last Sunday night, 23-17, in concerning fashion. Tagovailoa was 10-of-28 for 145 yards and one touchdown, which came on a 60-yard bomb to Tyreek Hill. That play, and Hill’s touchdown on a fumble recovery, marked the only two big plays of the night for the Dolphins offense. The Chargers took away the middle of the field defensively, forcing Tagovailoa into more difficult passing windows.
